EE has expanded its 4G network to 1,500 rural communities in the UK. Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands is famous for its scenery and tourists.

Shared Rural Network Upgrades

The Shared Rural Network (SRN) is a collaboration between mobile network carriers and the UK government to bring 4G to 95% of the UK by 2025.

EE, which signed the SRN deal in March 2020, has delivered more than 2,000 square miles of new 4G coverage to rural areas across all four UK nations, a size bigger than nine times that of the Isle of Man.

Over 99% of EE’s population has 4G.

The UK’s largest and fastest 4G network is the company’s. Its latest 4G coverage expansion will minimize “partial not spots” and improve high-speed mobile connectivity for customers and businesses in distant places.

Highland 4G speed

EE’s greatest SRN upgrade, the 1,500th site upgrade, improves 4G coverage in Loch Ness in Scotland and nearby settlements along the River Moriston. Local residents, businesses, and tourists—including the hundreds of thousands who visit Loch Ness each year to see “Nessie”—will benefit from the improved connectivity.

Rural Data Use

EE rural users have downloaded over 30TB of data utilizing SRN 4G upgrades. Tumble, Wales, and Mount, Cornwall, are data-hungry villages. Customers can now call friends, relatives, and local businesses with the enhancements.

EE is the first UK mobile operator to build or upgrade 1,500 distant sites for the Shared Rural Network (SRN) scheme.
